  SOUTH AFRICA AND VICTORIA FALLS Adventure

Day 1  DEPART SFO

Day 2  ARRIVE  CAPE TOWN  Welcome to South Africa!Upon arrival in Cape Town you are met by a local representative who will transfer you to your accommodation.

-Day 3    CAPE TOWN – SIGHTSEEING    B

Today enjoy a half day Cape Town City Tour.  Visit The Castle and Company Gardens. Drive by Parliament, City Hall and Slave Lodge.  Visit Malay Quarter, Bo Kaap. Visit to Table Mountain (weather dependant)               

Day 4  CAPE TOWN – ROBBEN ISLAND  B

Robben Island is situated a mere 7 miles from Cape Town, in the middle of Table Bay, within clear sight of the city. It was on this island that Nelson Mandela was held prisoner for 18 years, much of it under hard labour. Prior to being a prison for political activists during the Apartheid era, the island was a leper colony. The island is now a museum and conservation area andwas declared a World Heritage site in 1999. Former inmates lead tours around their old cells - a moving experience for both them and thousands of visitorsfrom around the world.

The tour includes a visit to Nelson Mandela's prison cell and the limestone quarry where prisoners work unceasingly day after day. There is the chance to view the wildlife and take photographs of Cape Town across the bay, with Table Mountain as the backdrop

Day 5    CAPE TOWN –CAPE PENINSULA TOUR  B

This morning, enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel before you are picked up for your full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. See for yourself how this spectacular southern tip of Africa became known as the Fairest Cape.  The tour begins with a stroll through the famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Then drive past the pristine beaches of Camps Bay, Clifton and Llandudno currently the hottest real estate in the world to Hout Bay, a functioning harbour and heart of the local crayfish industry (optional Seal Island cruise, time permitting).

After a stop for lunch, it’s on to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and its scenic viewing point. The spectacular sea and mountain views are reason enough to make the 66km trip from Cape Town.  Amid the rocky landscape - home to mountain zebra, eland and ostriches - blooms magnificent Cape flora.  Continue along the coastline to the beautiful Boulders Beach where you can sit among a colony of penguins.

Our last stop is the naval port of Simon's Town, the country's 3rd oldest European settlement. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 6   CAPE TOWN – TO OUDTSHOORN    BL

This morning after breakfast and checking out of our hotel, we set off for Oudtshoorn.Visit the amazing Cango Caves, with its amazing stalactites and stalagmites form one of the most spectacular scenic tourist attractions in South Africa.

There is more than one section to the caves, but only the main section is open to the public in order to preserve these majestic formations.   We then continue to Highgate Ostrich Show farm for a tour.  Learn about these birds, watch an ostrich race or ride one yourself!  Lunch at the Ostrich Farm with a menu of Ostrich specialties Accommodation: De Opstal Country Lodge– standard room 1 night

Day 7 OUDTSHOORN – KNYSNA  B

This morning we travel to Knysna.  Upon arrival we board our cruise on the vast Knysna Lagoon, and then visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Enjoy an amazing view of the imposing sandstone 'Heads' which guard the sea entrance to Knysna's huge tidal lagoon and the forests, marshes and pristine beaches surrounding it. After lunch we check in to our hotel, and the balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 8  KNYSNA – KARIEGA GAME RESERVE FULL BOARD/ GAME DRIVE
Travel overland, (Approx 4 hours driving time), to Kariega Game Lodge. This family owned and operated, private game reserve spans nearly 9,000 hectares of pristine African wilderness incorporating the picturesque Kariega and Bushman's Rivers. Kariega Game Lodge offers a unique combination of awesome Big-5 game viewing with an expansive variety of fauna, flora and birdlife in a landscape that incorporates 5 different eco-systems, displaying the most dramatic views and vistas. This afternoon enjoy an open vehicle safari through the game park, before returning after sunset to a wonderful dinner served under the African stars.

Accommodation: Kariega Main Lodge, 2/3 bedroom chalet 2 nights

Kariega Main Lodge offers families, friends and couples a relaxed and friendly environment to enjoy the African bush. All the log chalets are air conditioned, with en-suite bedrooms, and large private viewing decks. Each has a spacious lounge and living area which is great for socializing before retreating to the privacy and comfort of your bedroom.

The lodge has been expertly integrated with the surrounding bush to create a natural environment where guests can enjoy traditional meals in the restaurant or boma, a drink at the bar or a quiet a swim in the pool.

Day 9   KARIEGA GAME RESERVE   FB/2 GAME DRIVES

Enjoy an early morning game drive. You are then at leisure to enjoy the many facilities that Kariega offers.Nestled on the banks of the Bushman's River, this Lodge is unique in that it connects a Big-5 game reserve to the sea. In addition to game drives and walks, there are optional daily boat cruises which ferry guests through the quaint village of Kenton-on-sea to its picturesque and user friendly beaches.

Kariega also offers a variety of well marked hiking trails on the predator-free, eastern River Lodge section of the reserve. This provides guests with the opportunity of walking safely amongst more than 25 species of game and birdlife. Alternatively, take one the canoes for a leisurely paddle down either the Kariega or the Bushman's rivers and watch in blissful silence as the river birds and animals go about their daily business. Fishing is also on offer.This evening, experience another open vehicle safari before returning to the lodge for a great dinner

Day 10 KARIEGA GAME RESERVE – PORT ELIZABETH-JOHANNESBURG  B/GAME DRIVE

After your morning safari and your last opportunity to enjoy Africa's wildlife, you will be transferred back to Port Elizabeth Airport for your flight to Johannesburg. (Approx 90 minute driving time)Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 11  FLY JOHANNESBURG – VICTORIA FALLS       BD

This morning you are escorted to the terminal for your onward flight to Victoria Falls.On arrival at Victoria Falls you are transferred to your accommodation.  Balance of the day at leisure

The superb Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is the destination of choice at the Natural Wonder of the Victoria Falls. Day 12  VICTORIA FALLS – SIGHTSEEING    BD This morning you are transferred to Victoria Falls and given a guided tour on the Zimbabwean side of the Falls.

This evening enjoy your Sunset cruise on the Zambezi Explorer. At the end of the day, the Zambezi Explorer sails upstream to celebrate the setting African sun. This is the epitome of any travels to Victoria Falls. Share in the end-of-day ritual which sees wild herds streaming to the river banks for their last drink. Bring a camera and create your own golden memories. At the completion of your cruise you are transferred back to your hotel. 

Day 13  VICTORIA FALLS – AT LEISURE    BD

Day at leisure to explore the Falls (see attachment with Victoria Falls optional tours) on your own or relax and enjoy all the amenities your hotel has to offer.

Day 14   DEPART  VICTORIA FALLS  B

This morning you are transferred to the Vic Falls airport to board your flight to Johannesburg, there you connect to your onward flight back to Sacramento

Day 15  ARRIVE SFO / Complimentary Shuttle to Sacramento
